*MOMS AND DADS -- PLEASE CHECK THIS PAGE FOR UPDATED CALENDAR INFORMATION ABOUT CADET ACTIVITIES*
- PARENTS, your cadets will bring home a permission slip for any activity outside of weekly squadron meetings. They are expected to return the slip to the following meeting. Some events require a specific form to be filled out by parents in addition to the permission slips, your cadets will bring them home with all materials related to the events.
- PARENTS, if your cadet shows up to an event or to a meeting place prior to an event un-prepared they will be sent home to return with the requested materials. FORMS AND PERMISSION SLIPS NOT RETURNED ON THE DEADLINE WILL RESULT IN THE CADET NOT BEING ABLE TO PARTICIPATE.
Glossary of Terms
- SAREX: This term is an abbreviation for Search and Rescue Exercise. Cadets will participate in a variety of training missions including field search and rescue, flightline operations, communications and logistics. Typically these events will be wing wide, open to all qualified cadets and seniors throughout the state of Oklahoma. Most SAREXs are strategically placed in different regions of the state throughout the year. These are overnight events.
- FTX: This term is an abbreviation for Field Training Exercise. Similar to a SAREX, these exercises are generally broad in nature to include training for not only Search and Rescue but aslo disaster relief and disaster assesment. Most FTX events are open to the local squadron only, at times other squadrons will be invited to the event. These are also overnight events.
- Encampment: Just like the word sounds this is a camp of sorts. Some have regarded these events as a "watered down" version of military basic training, that statement is not entirely true. While cadets will be trained in the basic knowledge of military drill, ceremonies, customs, courtesies, physical training and proper uniform wear they will not be subject to the same kinds of "hazing" commonly seen in most branches of the armed forces. Encampments are an intense week of training and are required for cadets to promote to cadet officer rank as well as being required to attend National Cadet Activities.
- Blues: The AF blue uniform.
- BDUs: Battle Dress Uniform -- AKA: Camo
- PT UNIFORM: Blue shorts and White t-shirt
